Dick De Weerd
Dick De Weerd, 84, of Pella died Monday, May 9, in Pella. Funeral services were Thursday, May 12, at Third Reformed Church in Pella. Burial was in Oakwood
Cemetery in Pella.

De Weerd was born near Rock valley on June 1, 1920, the son of Bert and Hattie De Weerd. He was a 1939 graduate of Sioux Center High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in January 1942, serving 3 ½ years in the Pacific, and was discharged in December 1945.

He married Anna De Groot on April 17, 1946, at Middleburg. The couple owned and operated a grocery store in Carmel for 14 years. They sold the business in 1964 and moved to Pella, where they owned and operated the Dutch Mill Motel for 13 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spiritual matters. He was a member of Third Reformed Church in Pella, an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Pella Kiwanis club and a spieler on tour wagons at Tulip Time.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Ann and Bill Quick; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hilbert and Gordon; and two children, Judith Ann and David Alan.
Memorials are being directed to Hospice of Pella.
