Daniel "Andrew" Lyzen, 102, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Fern and Ben Weeda.

He was born February 17, 1910 at Alton, Iowa to Albert and Alice (VanEngen) Lyzen. He spent his growing up years in Iowa after which he spent a few years in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee.

He enlisted in the army where he served 3 ½ years during WWII in the US and in Europe. In his youth he accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ which was the focus of his life.

He married Mildred Bucy on December 1, 1945 in Paris, Tennessee. To this union was born one daughter.

He and his wife made their home in northwest Iowa where he worked for the Central Telephone Company until he retired. In 1979 he and Mildred moved to Alliance where they lived until Mildred died in August of 1984. On November 1, 1985 he married Ethel Flair and moved to Missouri where he lived until May 2011 when he moved back to Alliance to live with his daughter and son-in-law.

He is survived by his daughter, Fern (Ben) Weeda of Alliance; 3 grandsons, Daniel (Donna) of Bettendorf, IA, Jim (Lynisha) and Mark (Relyssa), all of Sidney; 4 great grandchildren, Tyler, Kyrie, Trey and Carter Weeda; 1 nephew and 2 nieces; his 2nd wife Ethel of Chillicothe, MO; two stepdaughters, Johnna Townsend of Chillicothe, MO, and Joy (LaMont) Townsend of Scottsbluff, NE; 8 step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren and step great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother and first wife Mildred.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel. LeRoy Sandford will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
