Clarence Melvin William Heuer was born September 21, 1920 at the Heuer home place in Eagle Township east of Hawarden to John and Louise (Miller) Heuer. He was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in rural Sioux Center where he was also later confirmed. He attained his education through the eighth grade at a country school in Eagle Township where he later was a country school director for many years. At an early age, he started farming with his father which he thoroughly enjoyed and continued long after.

He was united in marriage to Phyllis LeAnn Johnson on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 1946 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. After settling in at the Heuer home place, they attended Peace Lutheran Church for many years where he held offices on the church council a number of times. Clarence and Phyllis were blessed with two children, a daughter, Shari, and a son, Randy.

Clarence's interests included bowling with the Kent Feed team for many years in Ireton and later in Hawarden. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling with their friends throughout the U.S. and also to Japan, Europe, and Hawaii several times. In addition, he took many fall fishing trips and was an avid collector of Farmall Tractors which he proudly displayed in his home. Later, Clarence and his wife enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and attending their school activities where they could always be seen in the bleachers.

In December of 1977, the couple moved to their new home in Hawarden and became members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Clarence still continued to farm for many years with his son Randy and son-in-law, Fred Koopmans. He took great pride in maintaining his home by grooming his lawn and helping with the flowers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving family, including his wife, Phyllis, of almost 67 years; a daughter, Shari and her husband Fred Koopmans of Hawarden; and a son, Randy Heuer and his wife Pam of Alcester. Grandchildren are Michele Dirkx and her husband Brian of Spencer, Michael Koopmans and his wife Tammy of Hinton, Jayson Koopmans and his wife Carolina of Mankato, Tara Shumansky and her husband Todd of Sioux City, Sara DeLay and her husband Ben of Beresford, and Josh Homandberg and his fiance

Great Grandchildren are Jenna & Devin Dirkx, Caden & Kylie Koopmans, Carson & Jackson Koopmans, Jace & Aubrey Shumansky, Josie, Megan & Cooper DeLay, and many nephews and nieces. Clarence also has a sister, Rose Roberts of Hawarden, four sisters-in-law, Myra Heuer of Rock Valley, Ruth Esbeck of Hawarden, Lorraine Wells and Vivian Johnson of Ireton; and a brother-in-law, Benton Boyer of Hawarden.
