Fay Oaks

Fay Oaks, 88, of Alcester, died Tuesday (Aug. 13, 1991) at McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls.

Services were Saturday at the Alcester United Church of Christ. Rev. W. Robert Strobel officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery, under direction of Wass funeral home, Alcester.

Mr. Oaks was born June 3, 1903, near Chatsworth, Iowa. He attended Edwards country school near Hawarden, Ia. He married Doris Kelley Jan. 25, 1925, in Hamilton, Mo. The couple farmed in the Alcester area until 1943 when they moved into town. He then worked on the railroad, drove a gas tank wagon and served as city policeman for several years. He also was a school bus driver.

Mrs. Oaks died Nov. 11, 1982. Mr. Oaks was a member of the United Church of Christ in Alcester and the American Federation of Police Officers.

Survivors include two sons, Donald of Scoby, Mont., and Dean of Custer; a daughter, Mrs. Allen (Barbara) Berg of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ruby Haugen of Huron and Viola Hatch of Eugene, Ore.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Delverne and two brothers.
