Mrs. Edith Denekas, 69, of Rock Valley died Friday, August 24,1990, of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident near York, Nebr. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 in the First Reformed Church at Rock Valley with the Rev. Norman Van Heukelom officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mrs. Denekas, the former Edith Mooi, was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Chicago, the daughter of Herman and Antina (Toren) Mooi. She graduated from high school and completed two years of business college. On October 1, 1943, she married the Rev. Raymond Denekas in Holland, Mich. She assisted him in pastoring churches at Lennox, S.D., Holland, Mich., Arnville, Ky., Willow Lake, S.D., George and Inwood.

They moved to Rock Valley in 1982 where he was associate pastor and
also served at Davis, S.D. Survivors include her husband; a son and
his wife, James and Deanna Denekas of Le Mars; a daughter and her
husband, Carol and Earl De Jong of Belle Plaine; two brothers, James
Mooi of Marco Island, Fla., and Dale Mooi of Holland, Mich.; and five
grandchildren.
