Ed Den Herder, 43, Dies Following Brief Illness
Ed Den Herder, local trucker and cattle buyer, died at the St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City last Wednesday night about 10:30. He had been ill at home about a week with infected tonsils and teeth. Death was due to acute rheumatic fever.

He was an early trucker in Sioux Center, having been in the business for the past 17 years. Ed was born in the Netherlands and was 43 years old at the time of his death, his birthday being July 19th.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 11, 1942, 1:30 at the home and 2 o’clock at the First Reformed church with Rev. L. Brunsting officiating. Pallbearers included: Andrew Beernink, Joe Doornink, George Doornink, John B. Vander Berg, Arthur Slob and William Beernink. Interment was at the Boyden Cemetery. Survivors include his widow and 6 children, 4 sons, Donald, Steve. Merle, Edward and 2 daughters, Elva Jean and Muriel. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Den Herder of Valley Springs, S.D., 4 brothers, Henry, Al, Gerrit, Ralph, all of Valley Springs and 3 sisters, Mrs. Jake Mieras of Maurice, Mrs. Albert Mills of Valley Springs and Mrs. Alvin Goos of Sioux Falls.

Mrs. Ed Den Herder's only brother, Gerrit Vander Horst of Los Angeles, Calif, arrived by airplane on Saturday to attend the funeral and be with his sister. He plans to stay about 10 days.
