Obituary: Hawarden, IA—Myrtle Mae Harvey, age 90, of Hawarden, IA died Friday, September 07, 2012 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Erma Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 p.m. and visitation with the family until 8:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Myrtle was born July 12, 1922 in Hudson, SD to John Roy Anderson and Mattie Mae (Krusen) Anderson. She married Glen L. Harvey on November 15, 1939 in Dakota City, NE and the couple made their home in Hawarden. Glen died August 2, 1996. Myrtle was an extremely talented seamstress and even operated a store downtown Hawarden showcasing her talents. Her family was recipients of her talent as she made clothes, drapes, curtains, and everyone’s favorite, slippers. Myrtle also worked several years for the Hawarden Cleaners. Besides sewing, Myrtle also loved traveling and playing Skip-Bo.
Myrtle is survived by 3 sons and their wives, Robert (Carol) of Menno, SD, Larry (Shari) of Hill City, SD, and Roger (Cheryl) of Hawarden, IA; brother, Frank (Mary) of Sioux Falls, SD; 18 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Susan; daughter-in-law, Verla; 4 brothers; 1 sister; 4 brother-in-laws; and 5 sister-in-laws.
