Albert E. Heffernan, a former resident of Ireton, passed away Tuesday, February 8, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Altivene Roberge in Minneapolis.
His remains were brought to Ireton and brief services were held at the grave in Pleasant Hill cemetery at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Those from a distance who attended the services at Ireton were Mr. and Mrs, Louis Roberge and children, Altivene, Albert and Juel of Minneapolis, Elmer Heffernan and Hobart Wills of Platteyille, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Gene Osborn of Carroll, Iowa, Mrs. M. L. Smith of Tracy, Minn., and Mrs. Conrad Falde of Hawarden.
Albert Elray Heffernan was born on February 3, 1863, at Cuba City, Wis., and was the third child of a family of thirteen of .Maurice and Elizabeth Heffernan. He grew to young – manhood in Wisconsin, but when he was 22 years of age he went to Mina, S.D., to take a homestead. He lived there for five years and then came to Ireton-, where he engaged in the confectionery and hardware business for eight years.
He was united in marriage with Julia E. Welch January 21, 1891 and to this union was born one daughter, Altivene. After his marriage, he moved to a farm north of Ireton. He lived there until 1911, when he bought a farm near Hawarden, living there two years. In March, 1913, he moved to a farm near Garvin MN. He wife passed away January 15, 1935, and since her death he spent the winters in Minneapolis and the summers on the farm at Garvin. Besides his daughter he is survived by five grandchildren. He also leaves five brothers and two sisters. James and Oscar Heffernan of Birmingham, Ala.; Jesse E. Heffernan of Sheboygan, Wis.; Clyde Heffernan in Washington; Elmer Heffernan. and Mrs.
Grant Wills of Platteville, Wis., and Mrs. Ed Osborne of Carroll, Iowa.
At an early age he was baptized and joined the Methodist church in Wisconsin.
About 1893, he united with the Methodist church in Ireton and was a faithful member for about 23 years until he united with the Congregational church at Garvin, Minn. For many years he served on the official board of the Garvin church.
