Mrs. Van Driessen Dies at Age 81 in South Dakota

Mrs. Dick Van Driessen of Valley Springs, S.D., 81, mother of Ernest Van Driessen of rural Hawarden, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon [September 3] while enroute home from Sioux Falls with her husband. The couple had observed their 57th wedding anniversary on August 8 of this year.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1:30 in the home and at 2:00 o'clock at the Reformed church at Valley Springs.

Survivors include the widower; three daughters, Mrs. John Van Roekel of Valley Springs, Mrs. Margaret Top of Hills, Minn., and Mrs. Bill Ackerman of Luverne, Minn; two sons, John of Volga, S.D., and Ernest of rural Hawarden; a brother, living in The Netherlands; 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

Researcher Wim Ossen supplied her birth date from her birth certificate – 22 July 1881 in Arnhem, Netherlands – and says she and her husband had celebrated their 56th (not 57th) wedding anniversary.
