Alice Van Heuvelen, age 95, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. David Brower officiating.
Burial in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Alice Van Heuvelen was born on August 9, 1917 in Hospers, Iowa. She was the daughter of Peter and Rena (Woudstra) Van Meeteren. She lived her youth and attended school in Ocheyedan, Harris, and Sheldon, Iowa before moving into Hospers, Iowa, where she graduated from Hospers Christian School.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Van Heuvelen of Archer, Iowa on December 31, 1936. They started farming near Archer and then moved to Newkirk, Iowa and later near Sheldon, where they farmed until they retired and moved into Sheldon. Ray passed away on December 6, 1999.
Alice was a hard worker. She enjoyed farming with her husband, gardening, growing flowers, cooking, baking and camping at the lakes at Orr's Camp Ground. She liked to wear a lot of jewelry. She was a friend to everyone. She loved her pets, little children, and her family very much. Alice was a caregiver to her husband and daughter-in-law. She visited her mother nearly every day in the Sheldon Nursing Home. Most of all, Alice loved the Lord.
She was a very active member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She volunteered at the Village Treasure Chest for over 30 years.
Alice passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl and Leo Garcia of Deming, NM; grandson: Greg Marcinak and his daughters, Kaylyn and Ella, grandson: Lyle Van Heuvelen of Sheldon, IA and his special friend, Kelley Eisenbacher; one brother: Walter and Leora Van Meeteren of Grand Rapids, MI; sister-in-law: Mary Van Meeteren of Sheldon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond; son and daughter-in-law: Lauren and Lela Van Heuvelen; grandson: Larry Van Heuvelen; two brothers: Adrian and wife Grace Van Meeteren, Charles Van Meeteren; sister: Jenny and husband Henry Oldenkamp.
