Service: January 26, 2006, Protestant Reformed Church, Doon, IA
Doon, IA – Rika Van Den Top, 81, died Monday, January 23, 2006 ay Valley Manor, Rock Valley, IA. Services will be 2 p.m., Thursday at Protestant Reformed Church, Doon. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Doon. Pastor Steven Key will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Rika was born September 17, 1924 to Henry and Jeanette (Faber) Maassen in Doon. She was united in marriage to Albert Van Den Top on February 21, 1947 in Rock Valley. Together they farmed near Alvord for four years until moving to Washington where they farmed for 12 years. They returned to Iowa and lived in the Rock Valley/Doon areas and retired to Doon. Albert died February 20, 2004. Rika moved to Valley Manor September 29, 2004. Rika enjoyed sewing, crocheting and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: son, Gerald (Bertha) Van Den Top of Doon; daughters: Jean (John) Wynia of Doon, Geraldine (Robert) Blankespoor of George, IA, Hester (Wesley) De Groot of Doon, Deborah (Ronald) Hoksbergen of Hull, IA and Sharon Van Den Top of Rock Valley; son-in-law, Duane (Sandy) Alsum of Albany, NY; 36 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; brother, Marinus (Jennie) Maassen of Rock Valley; sisters: Alice (Marinus) Oostra of Lynden, WA and Cora (Minard) Van Den Top of Doon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; daughter, Marlene Alsum; great-granddaughter, Erica Rose Fykstra; brother, John Maassen.
