INTERMENT: Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley, Iowa
Rika Van Den Top was born on June 15, 1910 in Ede, the Netherlands, daughter of Gerrit and Teunisje (Stomphorst) Van Grootheest. Rika and family moved to the United States on August 12, 1920. She helped on the family farm north of Rock Valley. Rika married Tom Van Den Top on November 23, 1934 in Rock Valley. Together they farmed near Alvord, IA and then near Rock Valley. They retired and moved into Rock Valley in 1972. Tom died on August 21, 1990. Rika moved to the Valley Manor in February 1997. Rika died Thursday, December 21, 2000 at the Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley. She was 90 years 6 months 6 days of age.
Surviving relatives include 2 sons and their wives, Gerald and Clara Van Den Top of Coopersville, MI, Alvin and Joy Van Den Top of Hawarden, IA; daughter-in-law, June Van Den Top of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Effie Vande Stroet of Rock Valley, IA.
Rika was also preceded in death by her son Gerrit.
