Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: Gilbert De Zeeuw, 97, of Rock Valley, died Friday, August 24, 2012 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 1:30 pm Monday, August 27, 2012 at First Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.

Gilbert was born on June 13, 1915 in Sioux County, Iowa, son of Sander and Wilhelmina (DeBoer) De Zeeuw. He married Alvina Beckman on June 30, 1938 at Inwood, Iowa. They lived in Rock Valley where he was a Rawleigh Products Dealer until retirement at age 90. Gilbert helped his son Arlen at Hub Clothers in Hawarden. Gilbert was an active member of First Reformed Church. He served as a Sunday School Teacher and superintendent, was a member of the choir and also served as vice president of the consistory. Gilbert’s love, Alvina, passed away on April 3, 2008. Gilbert moved to Whispering Heights on June 19, 2008.

Gilbert is survived by his children, Donna Mae (Garold) Den Herder of Sioux Center, IA; Sandra Jean (Charles) Ver Steeg of Rock Valley; and Arlen (Evelyn) De Zeeuw of Hawarden, IA; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cynthia (Henry) Feekes of Rock Valley and Wilma Vant Hul of Edgerton, MN; and sister-in-law, Christine De Zeeuw Van Maanen of Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvina; brother, Stanley De Zeeuw; and sisters, Harriet Vugteveen and Alice Stegenga.
