Mr. Gerrit Oldenkamp, age 86, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, August 22, at 10:00am, at the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull.. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Gerrit was born on October 1, 1925, in Sanborn, the son of Herman and Hattie (Spykerman) Oldenkamp. He was raised mostly at Sanborn, where he attended school. As a teenager, he moved to Hull with his family. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

On June 24, 1948, he married Josephine Van Engen in Doon. They made their home in Hull, where he operated Oldenkamp Manufacturing, Inc., which produces livestock equipment and supplies. "Jean" passed away on October 31, 2006, in Hull.

On August 16, 2010, Gerrit became a resident of the Prairie View Home.

He was a member of the Hope Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served on the board of directors of the Hull Christian School, and he belonged to the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull.

Mr. and Mrs. Oldenkamp enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Lake Okoboji, and they liked traveling, especially when they wintered in Arizona many years.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Jolene and John Schiebout, Marjean and Glen Hulstein, and Kathy and Melvin Te Slaa; a son, Gary Oldenkamp; twelve grandchildren, Kristie, and her husband, Mike Verhoef; Matthew Trenkle, and his wife, Melissa; Daniel Hulstein; Jeremy Hulstein, and his wife, Leandra; Joshua Hulstein, and his wife, Kaylee; Christopher Hulstein, and his wife, Ashley; Justin Te Slaa, Rebecca Te Slaa, Vanessa Te Slaa, Courtney Te Slaa; Kayla Oldenkamp, and Zachary Oldenkamp; nine great-grandchildren, Todd and Ashley Verhoef, Gracie, Allyson, and Kennedy Trenkle, Olivia and Aralyn Hulstein, Tyson Hulstein, and Caden Hulstein; a sister, Tillie Sipma; a brother and his wife, Harold and Bertha Oldenkamp; and two sisters-in-law, Hattie Oldenkamp and Gert Van Engen.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Oldenkamp, and a sister, Elsie Snuttjer.
