HENRY W. VANDEN BOSCH
Mr. Henry Vanden Bosch, age 81, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Edgerton, Minnesota, and Orange City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 2, at the Hospice of the Valley in Mesa.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, February 7, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice, Iowa. The Rev. Wayne Sneller will officiate. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, at 2:30pm, at the Hillside Cemetery in Edgerton, with the Rev. Timothy Brown officiating.
Henry Wesley was born on December 17, 1924, in Edgerton, the son of John C. and Ida (Berghuis) Vanden Bosch. He was raised on a farm near Edgerton, where he attended a country school and the Edgerton Christian High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1946.
On November 18, 1947, he married Lucille Vander Woude at Edgerton. They lived in various towns in Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, and Arizona.
Henry was a farmer, did plumbing and heating work, and was a salesman of mostly feed and seed. As a salesman, he won many trips, which he and Lucille enjoyed together. Later in life, he fulfilled his passion to help people as a care-giver in a Hope Haven group home in Orange City and in individual homes in Arizona. He enjoyed playing games and visiting with his disabled clients.
He was involved in church activities, Bible studies, the Gideons, and the M2 prison ministry. He also served as a Calvinist Cadet Counselor and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Minnesota Mental Health Association.
Mr. Vanden Bosch liked to read, especially his Bible, play board games with his children and grandchildren, learn new things, and be with and talk to all people.
Survivors include his wife of more than 58 years, Lucille; three children, Lugene Vanden Bosch, and his wife, Tara, of Olympia, Washington; Emily, and her husband, Lee Maassen, of Maurice; and Gloria Foster, of Mesa; twelve grandchildren, Hannah Vanden Bosch, of Olympia; Ashley Allmon, of Seattle, Washington; Tyler Wolfe, of Paradise Valley, California; and Alyssa Wolfe, of Olympia; Stacy Maassen, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Aaron Maassen, of Orange City; Adam Maassen, of Maurice; and Stefan Maassen, of Maurice; and Jerome Harter, of Denia, Spain; Jason Harter, of Mesa; Jenifer Pineda, of Mesa; and Sharon Garcia, of Mesa; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Mouw, of Coupeville, Washington; and a brother, Gerald "Jerry" Vanden Bosch, of Polson, Montana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
