Mrs. Jennie Vande Berg, age 90, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, February 6, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Ter Beest and the Rev. Perry De Groot will officiate. Interment will be at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Jennie was born on May 11, 1916, in Sibley, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Kiel) Kramer. She was raised in the Orange City area, where she attended elementary school.
On November 30, 1938, she married William W. Cleveringa at Orange City. They made their home in Sioux Center until about 1954, when they moved to California. There she was a cashier and/or bookkeeper at several businesses, including Cleveringa Construction, which her husband operated. "Bill" passed away on January 29, 1981, in Bellflower, California.
On October 1, 1982, she married Ralph R. Vande Berg in Sioux Center, where they made their home. In 1988, they moved to Orange City. Ralph passed away on March 29, 1998, in Orange City.
In September of 2004, Mrs. Vande Berg became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in the Priscilla Circle.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. She was a faithful correspondent, sending birthday cards to all the generations. Her family was important to her, and she encouraged them often.
Survivors include seven children, Alice, and her husband, Billy Thomasson, of Hope, Arkansas; William Cleveringa, of Fontana, California; Stan Cleveringa, and his wife, Eno, of Charleston, South Carolina; Henry Cleveringa, of Dallas, Texas; Frank Cleveringa, and his wife, Paula, of Scottsdale, Arizona; Wes Cleveringa, and his wife, Margaret, of Bellflower; and Randy Cleveringa, of California; three step-children and their spouses, Rose and Harold Van Der Weide, of Orange City; Norman and Sheryl Vande Berg, of Pipestone, Minnesota; and Ruth and Jay Lyftogt, of Orange City; two step-daughters-in-Iaw, Nadine Pierce, of Orlando, Florida; and Kae Vande Berg, of Watkinsville, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, seventeen step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, 27 step-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Jessie Vande Griend, of Sioux Center; Henry Kramer, and his wife, Wilmina, of Sioux Center; Dorothy, and her husband, Nick Draayer, of Orange City; and Millie, and her husband, Bill Van't Hul, of Alton; and a sister-in-law, Alma Kramer, of Lynden, Washington.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Calvin; two sets of stillborn twins; a son-in-law, Harold Rust; two step-sons, Harlan and Allen Vande Berg; a great-grandson; a brother, Steve Kramer; and a sister and her husband, Hermina and George Otten.
