DEATH OF LONG TIME RESIDENT
J. D. Wilson Passed Away at His Home Here Friday
Was 79 Years of Age and a Former Lyon County Sheriff.--Leaves Wife and Three Children

J. D. Wilson, a well known resident of this city, passed away at his home shortly after 4 o'clock last Friday afternoon following a brief illness from pneumonia. He had been ailing since last November but his condition was not regarded as serious until last Wednesday morning when he was taken with a chill and due to his weakened condition he was unable to overcome pneumonia.

Funeral services were held at the Barnard funeral home at 10 o'clock Monday morning with Rev. T. H. Harding in charge. A. C. Henning, with Mrs. Claus Lage as accompanist, sang. His remains were taken overland to Worthington, Minn., where he was buried.

James D. Wilson was born at Delhi, Iowa, Sept. 9, 1857, and so was past 79 years of age at the time of his death. When a lad 15 years old he came to Rock Rapids where he lived for many years. He was united in marriage with Isabelle Maxwell Nov. 14, 1882, at Rock Rapids and to this union three children were born. After his marriage he went to Mitchell, S.D., where he lived about a year and while there he operated a meat market. In 1883 he returned to Rock Rapids and for eight years he served as deputy sheriff and later was elected sheriff and for eight years served Lyon county in this capacity. After serving as sheriff he engated in the real estate business.

He first came to Hawarden about 35 years ago and lived in this vicinity for about ten years. During this time he engaged in mason work and many of the basements and sidewalks in this city were constructed by him and his son. In 1912 he moved to Alberta, Minn., where he resided for twelve years and then thirteen years ago he returned to Hawarden and has made his home here continuously since that time. The past year he engaged in gardening.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. George Albright, Worthington, Minn.; Albert G. Wilson, Alberta, Minn.; and Eugene B. Wilson of Garrison, N.D. His son Albert had been here for the past three weeks and his other son and daughter were here for the funeral. He is also survived by one brother, Chas. Wilson, Red Lodge, Mont., and one sister, Mrs. Jerome Smith, Ryan, Iowa. There are nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mr. Wilson was a kind neighbor and friend and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever he found it possible. His passing is a severe blow to his wife whose welfare was his first concern and sincere sympathy is extended to her. She will go to Worthington, Minn., and make her home with her daughter.
