Rock Valley, IA – Gerrit Vande Kamp, 79, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Valley Manor, Rock Valley. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Reverend John Engbers will officiate.
Gerrit Vande Kamp was born February 1, 1927 to George and Celia (Vanden Berg) Vande Kamp in Rock Valley. He grew up on farms near Middleburg, Sioux Center, Lebanon and Hawarden, IA. He attended country schools around Sioux Center. Gerrit worked at Swift Meat Packing in Sioux City for a short time. He was united in marriage to Priscilla Otten on September 22, 1950 in Doon, IA. Gerrit entered the United States Army in November of 1950 and together they lived in Texas, Georgia, Florida and California until his discharge in 1952. They moved back near Rock Valley area where they farmed, until moving into Rock Valley in 1993. Priscilla died January 1, 2006.
Gerrit died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Valley Manor, Rock Valley. He was 79 years of age.
Surviving relatives include 2 sons: Gary (Gloria) Vande Kamp of Tulsa, OK, Randy (Mary) Vande Kamp of Rock Valley; daughter, Pat (Randy) Byl of Rock Valley; grandchildren: Heath, Heather, Seth, Natasha, Matthew and Jace Vande Kamp, Joshua, Mitchell, Cody and Madison Byl; great-grandchildren: Ava and Adam Vande Kamp; ; brothers: Hilbert (Lorraine) and Marvin (Harriet) Vande Kamp all of Rock Valley, George (Darla) Vande Kamp of Hull, IA, Allan (Marlene) Vande Kamp of Rock Valley and Vernon (Leona) Vande Kamp of Orange City, IA; sisters: Winifred (Alfred) De Jong of Ireton, IA, Geraldine (John T) Van Holland of Rock Valley, Celia (Marvin) Ten Napel of Ireton and Norma (Nelson) Nikkel of Pella, IA; brother-in-law, Leonard Vanden Bosch of Rock Valley.
Gerrit was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Priscilla; sister: Geneva Vanden Bosch.
