Gilbert Van Beek Rites Set for Friday Afternoon, Dies Tuesday at Local Hospital

Funeral services will be held at the Carmel Reformed Church at 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. Friday for Gilbert Van Beek, 73, retired farmer and life-long resident of this vicinity, who died ill the Sioux Center Community hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Services will be concluded by the Rev. William Hoffman, pastor of the Carmel church, and burial will be made in the Carmel cemetery. Vander Ploeg's Funeral home of Sioux Center is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Henry Langstraat, Wilmer Altena, Cornie Jansen, Tony Rosenboom, Will De Boer and Gerrit Feckes.

Mr. Van Beek was born in Sioux Center May 20, 1886, and farmed in the Carmel area most of his adult life until his retirement.

He was married to Jennie Van Burkum January 15, 1908. She preceded him in death June 21, 1953.

Survivors include three sons, Neal and Arthur Van Beek of Sioux Center and Wilbur of Denver; a brother, Andrew Van Beek of Wilmington, Del., four sisters, Mrs. George Vande Brake of Bellflower, Cal., Mrs. Orville Buffington of Sioux Center, Mrs. Gerrit Vermeer of Rock Valley and Mrs. Roy Salsbury of Reno, Nev.

Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
