The funeral of Mrs. M. Hurd the mother of G. L. Hurd, former editor and proprietor of the Rock Valley Bee took place on Sunday from the home of G. L. Hurd.
(This was found to be Mrs. Maretta (Deforest) Hurd, born 1853 Cayuga Co. New York State. She died at Rock Valley 21 Aug 1902, it was stated on her death record she was divorced, (From John B. Hurd). John B. Hurd was 31 and living in Wyandotte KA in 1885 wife was Maretta age 30 and they had two sons Guelford 8, and William Eugene 2. In 1900 she was living with her son Guelford/Gifford in Rock Township Sioux County IA. Guelford birth was Jul 1877 Iowa. He was married to Cora/Clara Benbow in 1897 in O’Brien County IA. Guelford Lansing Hurd went to Oregon shortly after Sioux county IA and died in Marin CA May 3, 1954. )
