From the Alton Democrat, November 2, 1918:

Last Wednesday death claimed Grandma Balkema at the age of 92 years. Mrs. Balkema being an invalid for several years, made her home with her children, Mr. and Mrs. John Van Rooyen. Funeral services were held at the house and cemetery by Rev. Fulcomer of Hospers and Rev. Douwstra of Newkirk. The remains were taken to the Newkirk grave yard for burial.
