Peter Van Maasdam, age 78, died Thursday, April 14, 1994, at the Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook, Minn. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 18, 1994 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook. Pastors Willis Peterson and Rodney Benson officiated.

Peter Van Maasdam, Jr. was born April 29, 1915 in Boyden to Peter & Anna Hibma Van Maasdam. His early years were spent at Boyden. Following the flu epidemic in 1918 when his father died, he moved with his mother, two sisters and one brother to Maurice where he attended public school. As a young man he worked as a hired man on farms in the Sioux County area.

On Feb. 27, 1941, he and Leona DeJager were married in Maurice. They farmed in the Maurice area for several years. In 1959 they moved to Minnesota and purchased the family farm southeast of Westbrook where they raised their family. Pete retired from farming in 1992 when they moved to their home in Westbrook. On Feb. 1, 1994 Pete entered the Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook where he served as a trustee and an usher.

Peter is survived by his wife, Leona; four sons, James and his wife Judy of Gibbon, MN; Robert and his wife Sherril of Red Wing, MN; Roger and his wife Cheryl of Schaumburg; Curtis and his wife Crystal of Vergas, MN; two daughters, Janice Van Maasdam of Pasadena, CA, and Pat, Mrs. Mel Peterson, of Spirit Lake; one brother, Casey Van Maasdam of Lakefield, MN; two sisters, Elizabeth Smits of Worthington, MN, and Katherine, Mrs. James Brown, of Atwater, MN; 12 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gerrit.
