John D. Van Maanen, age 80, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, April 3, 1994, at the Valley Manor Nursing Home at Rock Valley, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the First Christian Reformed Church at Rock Valley. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Rev. C. Eric Fennema will be officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday with the family present 7:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley.

John was born July 15, 1913 near Rock Valley. He was the son of Dick & Dena (Vrymoet) Van Maanen. He married Jeanette Kempema on February 23, 1938 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed near Rock Valley until retirement when they moved to Rock Valley in 1981. John was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and was a past Deacon of the church. John moved to the Valley Manor at Rock Valley December 8, 1992.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Jeanette; two daughters and their husbands, Donna & Glen Tilstra of Inwood, IA; Joanne & Dick D. Dirksen of Rock Valley, IA; one brother, Dick Van Maanen of Rock Valley; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his daughter, Marlys Van Maanen; two brothers, Henry & Gerrit Van Maanen; two sisters, Mrs. Bert (Gertrude) Van't Hul, and Mrs. John (Henrietta) Kempema; two infant grandchildren.
