Teunis Klay, one of Rock Valley's best known and respected citizens died suddenly last Friday evening shortly after retiring, of heart failure. His age was about sixty five years. He was one of the early settlers and had retired from active business, having amassed considerable means. He leaves surviving him his widow and two sons, Reynold Klay of this place and Gerritt Klay of Orange City. The funeral was held on Monday and was largely attended.
(According to an ancestry.com account, Teunis Klay (Klaij) was born 3 Sep 1836 Spanbroek, NH. Neth. He died 20 Jul 1902 Rock Valley IA. He married Dec 21, 1856 Wijdenes, NH, Neth. to Dieuwertje De Boer 1838-1914. They had two sons - Reynold 1864-1924 and Gerrit 1867-1939
