Henry Van Bruggen Died July 3, 1996
Henry Van Bruggen, 87, of Ireton died Wednesday, July 3, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 8, at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Van Bruggen was born August 12, 1908, near Maurice, the son of Tiete and Jennie (Slickers) Van Bruggen. He was raised and educated in the Ireton area. He married Lena Kneubel November 19, 1929. in Ireton. The couple made their home in Ireton where Henry farmed. He retired from farming and then managed the Ireton Coop Gas and Oil Company. His wife died Thursday, June 27, 1996; he was hospitalized the next day and died Wednesday, July 3, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital, at the age of 87 years.

He was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He was a former board member of Ireton Christian School and served as mayor of Ireton for six years. He had also served on boards for the Ireton Coop Elevator and the Rural Electric Cooperative of Sioux County.

Survivors include two sons, Ted and his wife Eunice, and Harold; two daughters and husbands, Jean and George Huizenga and Arlys and Dennis Feenstra; two brothers and wives, Ted and Gerry and Albert and Ann; three sisters, Dcna Reinking, Tracy and husband John Vander Schaaf; Alice and husband Cliff Reinking; 2 stepbrothers, Dewey Kuiken and his wife Evelyn and Allen Kuiken and wife Jean; two stepsisters and husbands, Muriel and Andy Hop and Elaine and Merle Riphagen; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Arlyn; daughter-in-law, Mary; three brothers, Arie In Infancy, Wilson and Arie; three sisters, Cora Peuse, Alice at age six and Josephine Vander Griend; stepbrother, Clarence Kuiken; and two stepsisters, Grace Ver Steeg and Nellie Boone.
