Bovee, Sarah (Sally), Mrs. Alex, 1835-1936

Mrs. Alex Bovee of Elk Point, who was 100 years old last April, and believed to have been the oldest woman in South Dakota, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Hasson, last Friday [January 3]. Mrs. Bovee had lived at Elk Point continuously for 51 years. Soon after her marriage in Illinois Mrs. Bovee and her husband came to Elk Point in a covered wagon in 1871 but they lived there but a short time and then returned to Illinois. In 1884 they came back to Elk Point and she lived there continuously since that time.

Mrs. Bovee was born in the state of New York April 18, 1835, and she came to Illinois with her parents when a child. She is survived by her daughter, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A news note about her 93rd birthday gives her name as Sarah Bovee (Hawarden Independent, April 26, 1928). A news note about her 100th birthday gives her name as Mrs. Sally Bovee and says that she had only two children, a son Charles Bovee, now deceased, and a daughter Mrs. Hasson (Hawarden Independent, April 25, 1935). As of her 97th birthday, her son was still living (Hawarden Independent, April 28, 1932).
