Marion Vander Pol, 86, of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, May 21, 2012 at the George Good Samaritan Center.

Arrangements are being completed with Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10AM in the chapel of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Marion L. Vander Pol was born October 8, 1925 to Dowie and Bernice (Van Meeveren) Vander Pol in Hospers, Iowa. He graduated from Newkirk High School in Newkirk, Iowa.

Marion served his country as a member of the US Army from 1946-1947; and was stationed in Japan. After his honorable discharge, Marion began working at the CO-OP lumber yard in Sioux Center before working for a number of years at Silent Sioux Manufacturing in Orange City. He later was part owner of M&M Construction with Marv Vande Hoef. Before retiring in 1988, Marion worked for Area 4 Education Agency as a media transport driver.

Marion married Jeneva Vermeer in June of 1950. Jeneva died at the age of 37, on September 12, 1963. On October 8, 1964, Marion married Nelvina Langstraat in Carmel, Iowa. Marion is a longtime member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

In his free time, Marion enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and playing cards. He and Nelvina wintered in Texas for many years where they kept themselves busy volunteering and attending craft shows.

Marion is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nelvina Vander Pol of Sioux Center; seven children: Carol and John Huigens of Sioux City, Michael Vander Pol of Rifle, CO, Sandra Snow of Rome, NY, Nancy and Randy Riemersma of Willmar, MN, Vicki and Joseph Ranschau of Rock Valley, Tamara and Justin Cooper of Sioux City and Elwin Langstraat; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Vernon Vreize of Phoenix, AZ.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jeneva and his parents.
