From the Alton Democrat of Oct 19, 1901
John R. Lubsen died at his home in this city Saturday aged seventy-one years. He had been in poor health for four years and bedfast for a year. Deceased was born in Friesland (Germany) and was the father of twelve children four of whom are living. They are a son at Grand Rapids, Mrs. H. Knoll of Alton and a son and daughter at home. The funeral took place Monday conducted by Rev. Ihrman of Maurice in absense of Rev. Lepeltak.
(There was found a lot of conflicting info on this family'locations. The obit states he was born in Friesland, Neth? The 1900 census states he was born in Germany. There is no record of a marriage in the Netherlands on www.genlias.nl, so they could have come from Germany to the Netherlands, but their children were born at Bedum Groningen and quite a few of the twelve died there. John 'Jan' or 'Johann' was born 24 Jun 1839 Germany? The ancestry.com account has his death as 12 Dec 1901 Alton IA, but the newspaper article states his death as Oct 1901. His father was Tante Lubsen and mother was Ette Roolfs, he married Peterke Grace Folkers, (when and where?) There children were born at Bedum Groningen Netherlands. Children - Katherine, Etta, Johann, Ommo, Joseph, Antje, Etta, Esther, Ette, Johanna, Johanna, and Peter. The 1900 census of Nassau tsp. comfirms this is Jan Lubsen age 69 with three of his children living with him Jan 32, Ettie 26 and Peter 19.)
