The Rev. Hatty Duncan, 63, Le Mars, died Monday, Oct. 31, 1994 in a two vehicle accident in rural Cherokee County. Services were held Friday, Nov. 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ with colleagues in ministry officiating. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars.

Hatty Goldie Hoogeterp was born Feb. 26, 1931 in Newkirk, rural Hospers, the daughter of Hillebrand and Anne (de Boer) Hoogeterp. She was baptized at the Newkirk Reformed Church and graduated from Orange City High School. She then worked at a telephone company in Spencer. She received a bachelor of arts from Morningside College in 1963. She studied at the McCormick Seminary in Chicago and later transferred to the University of Dubuque where she earned her Master of Divinity Degree in 1969 .

She married Charles DuncanJan.17, 1970 in Galena, Ill. She was ordained Sept. 30, 1973 in The Presbytery of Northwest Iowa. She served parishes in York, Neb., Lancaster , Wis., Galena, ILL, Miles Preston-Sabula, Iowa. And Plymouth Presbyterian rural Le Mars from Oct. 1983 to Feb. 1993.. The Rev. Mrs. Duncan was a member of Prospect Hill Presbytery representative to Synod Council-Synod of Lakes and Prairies, Synod Council-Business Committee, Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee of Prospect Hill Presbytery, Le Mars Ministerial Assoc., Akron Ministerial Alliance, Ecumenical Rural Concerns Committee of Northwest Iowa, Board of Directors of the Christian Needs Centers Board of Directors of PACT Inc., member of AAUW and the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators.

Survivors include her husband;a brother Theo Hoogeterp and his wife Jo of Sheldon; tow half sisters, Wilma and her husband Clyde Weaver of Lake Parks, and Jennie and her husband Herman Buren of Royal; a niece and seven nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Timothy Hoogeterp.
