Sioux Center News, December 31, 1986

Frank T. McGill, 98, longtime attorney and former mayor of Rock Valley, died Monday, December 22, in a hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were at 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 26, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. Donald R. Smith officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

McGill was born October 1, 1888, in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Rock Valley at age 12. He graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1906. He taught in rural school and worked in the First National Bank in Rock Valley. He graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1916 and practiced law in Fort Dodge until 1917. He then went to Camp Dodge where he operated the Knight's of Columbus Serviceman's Canteen. After World War I, he returned to Rock Valley where he practiced law until his death. He married Lona Norris, July 21, 1926. She died November 8, 1976.

McGill served as an Iowa legislator representing Sioux County from 1934 until 1936. He served as mayor of Rock Valley for 13 years and city attorney for many years. He was a charter member of the Rock Valley Rotary Club and served on the school board. He was president of the Community Oil Board for 40 years and was a member of the Sioux County and Iowa State Bar Association since 1916. He was a member and trustee of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

McGill was the grand marshal of the Rock Valley centennial parade.

Survivors include a son, Thomas of Rock Valley; a daughter, Mary Goin of Mitchell, South Dakota; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
