Orange City, November 22, 2004

John Brouwer, 86, of Prinsburg, Minn., formerly of Orange City and Middleburg, died on Monday afternoon, November 22, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., on Saturday, Nov. 27, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg, with Rev. David Zylstra and Rev. Wendell Davelaar officiating. Interment will be in the Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg and one hour prior to the service at the church.

John Brouwer was born June 29, 1918, in Orange City, the son of Tracy (Koopmans) and John Brouwer. He grew up and received his education in the Orange City community and was baptized at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. In 1939 he moved to Minnesota and farmed in the Chandler area.

On December 29, 1949 he married Nellie Kooiman.
On January 22, 1971 he married Anne Marcus in Chandler. In 1973 they moved to Middleburg, where John worked as an independent truck driver. Following his retirement in 1998 they moved to Prinsburg.

He was a former member of First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City and Chandler Christian Reformed Church and a current member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pringsburg.

He loved farming, driving truck and animals.

He is survived by his wife Anne Brouwer of Prinsburg; son James Brouwer of Modesto, Calif.; daughters, Lynnette (and Matthew) Nolan of Pipestone, MN; and Rosalie (and Rev. Wendell) Davelaar of Fulton, Ill; stepson Garry (and Terry) Freese of Kodak, Tennessee; stepdaugher Sharilyn (and Jim) Simchuck of Minneapolis, Minn; ten grandchildren; four step grandchildren; three great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

Also surviving are brother Melvin (and Marilyn) Brouwer of Newkirk, sister Nellie Wassenaar of Orange City and many nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, his first wife Nellie Kooiman on October 18, 1969, son Douglas Brouwer, daughter Annabelle Fierro, a grandson and sister Gertrude Bouw(Brouwer)
