ABMA, VANVELDHUIZEN, BILSMA

M. Abma died at his residence on the Ketel farm a mile and a half north of town last Friday afternoon after a weeks' illness. Mr. Abma was a man in the prime of life being but little past thirty and was in good health until the twenty-third of August. On that day he was stacking grain and, becoming very warm, unwisely went into the Floyd to cool off. He was taken ,with congestion and inflammation of the bowels and lived just a week. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Abma of Orange City and leaves a wife and four small children the youngest being five months old. Funeral services were conducted from the first reformed church at Orange City by Rev. Ver Duine of Middleburg on Saturday afternoon.
(This was Markus Abma, died Sep 1, 1901 at Hospers, IA buried at Orange City IA, he was born 28 Mar 1867 at Hennaarderadeel, Friesland Netherlands to Harmen Murkes Abma and Joukje Teides Bilsma His wife was Riekje VanVeldhuizen They were married Feb 1, 1894 at Orange City IA. The obit in the Sioux Center News of Sep 4, 1901 mentioned they had four children but only three are mentioned in the 1900 census They are Herman (Harry), Jennie and Josie. Riekje married L. Vanden Bosch shortly after Markus died.
