Hawarden Independent, December 5, 1935

Rev. Donald W. McCullough, who spent his youth in Hawarden, died at his home in Mitchell, SD, Sunday Nov. 17th following a week's illness from pneumonia, according to word received by The Independent.

Funeral services were held at Mitchell with Rev. Bergh of Sioux Falls in charge and interment was made there.

Donald McCullough was born in Hawarden, Feb. 6, 1892, so would have been 44 years of age next February. His boyhood was spent in this city and he attended the Hawarden schools. About thirty years ago the family moved to Montana. Donald farmed for a long time there but a number of years ago became a minister of the Pentecostal denomination. For a number of years he was active in religious circles at Sonnette, Mont., and later was instrumental in the organization of the Pentecostal church at Miles City. He followed evangelistic work in many part of the country for a time and a year or two ago became pastor of the Pentecostal church at Mitchell. He visited in Hawarden a little more than a year ago, calling on a number of his boyhood friends here at that time.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Wm. O'Dein of Tulare, Calif., and one son, John Wesley, ato years old, who is with his mother at Mitchell. He also is survived by his aged parents, Mr. & Mrs. D. N. McCullough of Ashland, Mont., four brothers, W. H. McCullough of Yakima, Wash.; L. R. McCullough of Basin, Mont.; H. J. McCullough of Selway, Mont., and M. M. McCullough of Umatilla, Ore., and one sister, Mrs. Geo. Badgett of Ashland, Mont. One brother, Heber J. McCullough attended the funeral at Mitchell, but others were prevented from attending by the serious illness of Mrs. D. N. McCullough who has been bedfast for a month but is now improving.
