James Dawson received word that his brother-in-law, S. T. Hind of Washington, D.C. passed away Sunday and he departed Monday evening for Washington to attend the funeral. He was joined at Galena, Ill, by his brother, Joe Dawson of Benton, Wis., who also went to Washington for the funeral.

Mr. Hind was an early day resident of this community, having taught school in the Finnie district in Virginia township some forth-five years ago and he was united in marriage here with Mr. Dawson's sister. Fully forty years ago he accepted a civil service position in one of the government departments in Washington and continued in that work until his retirement a few years ago. With Mrs. Hind he visited here two or three years ago. He had numerous friends among the older residents who will learn with regret of his death.
