Sioux Center News, March 29, 1951

A stroke, suffered while he was delivering fuel to the Gerrit Bruxvoort farm south of town Saturday afternoon between 4 and 5 o'clock, proved fatal to Fred Brower, 53. Mr. Brower, who had been associated with the Standard Oil for about 23 years had gone in his truck to the Bruxvoort farm south of Orange City. As his truck came onto the yard, the Bruxvoorts saw that it was not traveling straight and that it ran over a scoop. The truck stopped and when Fred did not get out, Mr. Bruxvoort went out to investigate. The window on the right side of the truck was partly lowered and the glass was cracked. He opened the door and spoke to Fred but he received no answer. Mr. Bruxvoort then hastily called for help, Dr. Zeilenger went out at once and the Van Etten ambulance with Mert Kraai and Don Van Etten also went to the farm. Mr. Brower was unconscious and so he remained until his death in Grossmann hospital at about 9 p.m., Saturday.

He had been in fairly good health although he had been troubled by high blood pressure and a heart ailment. Several men who saw him Saturday afternoon downtown have remarked since that Mr. Brower did not seem to be his usual self. But he had not complained of being ill.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in the home and in the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Maaselink officiating. Burial was in the local cemetery.
