Sioux County Herald of Aug 15, 1900 p. 5
Out at the farm of J. Immeker, five miles west of town, last Thursday occurred a sad and fatal accident. His son, a lad of 14 years, was working in the field with a team and at noon unhitched the team and mounted one of the horses to ride it to the house, when in some manner he was thrown from the animal, his foot catching in the harness in such a manner that he was unable to extricate it. The horse took fright and ran dragging and kicking him all the way to the barn, where the mother of the boy tried to catch the frightened animal but was unable to do so until it had made a circuit of the barn, when she succeeded in getting hold of it. The boy was alive when released from the harness but died a few minutes after. He was badly mangled from the dragging over the rough ground and the kicks received from the horse, the neck being broken and the entire back part of the head was reduced to pulp. The profoundest sympathy is felt for the parents in the sad and untimely death of their beloved son.
(noted in the Volksvriend index as J’s son 12 yrs died 8/16/1900. Found the marriage record on www.genlias.nl for the parents Janne Immeker age 39 born Oldebroek, Geld. Netherlands married 5 Apr 1883 to Gerritje Van Veen age 17 born Hattem, Geld. Netherlands. There children were not posted on that site. They came in 1893 and were listed on the 1895 census of West Branch Tsp. Sioux county, IA. The children were Marrigje 11, Klazeina 9, Johanna 8, Tinnie 6 and Jan 3. . The report in the Sioux County Herald states the son was 14, in the Sioux Center News he was 13 yrs and in the Death record he was 12 yrs. No son appears on the 1895 record that would be the right age.
Further update, found an on line family history , the son was Teunis Immeker born 28 Mar 1888 in Oldebroek died 1900 USA at 12 yrs old. )
