Maurice - John C. Brouwer, 88, Maurice, died Sunday, July 27 at Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Facility.

Services were Wednesday, July 20, at First Reformed Church in Maurice, with the Rev. Wayne Sneller officiating. Burial was at Sherman Township Cemetery in Maurice, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

John Brouwer, son of Neal and Jenny (Mars) Brouwer, was born March 25, 1915 near Orange City. He was raised on farms near Orange City and Remsen, and attended nearby country schools.

He married Vera Levering on Feb. 21, 1946, at First Reformed Church in Maurice. They settled in Maurice. They lived in Bellflower, CA for a year before returning to Maurice.

He was employed in the area as a truck driver and mechanic. He last worked as a mechanic for Harker's in LeMars, before retiring in 1984.

He was a member of First Reformed Church. He loved times with his family and enjoyed visiting and getting to know people.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Brouwer of Maurice; four children, Betty & Garret Visser of Sioux Center; Glen & Shari Brouwer of Sioux Center; Ruth & Brett Flemming of Vancouver, WA, and Marv & Doris Brouwer of Sioux Center; four grandchildren; a brother, Louis Brouwer of Steen, MN; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Harold & Mariele Levering of Fultonville, NY.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angie Brouwer; two brothers, Peter Brouwer and Richard Brouwer; and three sisters, Gertrude Vander Ziel, Susan Schaap and Jeanette Kreun.
