Sioux County Herald of Jan 23, 1901 p.5 Boyden news.
Mr. Davis of this place was buried last Friday, Rev.. Chandler of Hull preaching the funeral sermon. Mr. Davis was well known here as he came here in early pioneer days. He was a man of sterling worth and Christian character and a member of the M. E. church of this place. He leaves two daughters and one son to mourn the loss of a loving father.

Died – John B. Davis was born at Kingston PA, July 3, 1946 and died at Boyden IA on Jan 16. 1901 aged 54 years 6 months and 13 days.
In childhood days with his parents he moved to Illinois and in later life moved to MN, where he spent a number of years. Sixteen years ago he moved to Boyden with his two children where he has since resided. The funeral serviced were preached in the UP Church conducted by Rev. Chandler of Hull assisted by Rev. Acheson and the remains were laid to rest in the Pleasant View cemetery. The funeral services were attended by the son Claus of Rock Rapides and the daughter Myrtle of Emmetsburg, also __(illegible)____ and her husband from a distance. The funeral was largely attended by this many old friends here. Mr. Davis was a member of the M.E. church and admired fro his unassuming ways and real worth of character. If there ever was a Christian man Mr. Davis was one. To the friends and relatives we extend our deepest sympathy in their four of bereavment.
(The background was hard to trace because of so many John Davis’s in the records. In the 1900 census he was living in Boyden Sioux county born Jul 1847 and his daughter Myrtle was living with him. Claud was found in the 1900 census single working near Rock Rapids IA 20 years of age born in IL March of 1880.)
