MRS. A. VISSER LAID TO REST
Hawarden Lady Passed Away After an Illness of Only Three Days

Funeral services for Mrs. A. Visser, whose death occurred early last Thursday morning [February 21], were held Saturday afternoon at the Ross Funeral Home and at the Hawarden Christian Reformed church, conducted by Rev. J. R. Rozendal, the pastor. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Visser, formerly Alice Van Engen, was born at Drenthe, Netherlands, Dec. 28, 1854, and died at Hawarden Feb. 21, 1929, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 23 days. Her illness was but of three days duration. Suffering from a bowel obstruction, she was removed to the Hawarden hospital where she submitted to an operation on Tuesday evening of last week, but even this did not avail to stay the hand of death. Prior to coming to Hawarden she resided at Orange City for many years, but for the past fifteen years lived on various farms in this immediate community with her husband.

Mrs. Visser was highly respected by all who knew her. She was active as a member of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Hawarden Christian Reformed church. Her sincere, humble faith in God was firm until the end. Calmly she bore her suffering and peacefully she died.

Besides the sorrowing husband, she is survived by eight children: Herman Sliekers of Remsen, Iowa; Mrs. J. Jasper of Orange City; Mrs. T. Van Bruggen of Hawarden; Mrs. E. Riepma of Ireton; John Sliekers of Round Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Martin Schaferlee of Garwin, Iowa; Mrs. Raymond Jorgenson of Garwin, Iowa; and Albert Sliekers of Grundy Center, Iowa.

In addition to those residing in this community, relatives and friends from a distance who came to attend the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schaferlee and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jorgeson of Garwin, Iowa; Herman Sliekers of Remsen; John Sliekers of Round Lake, Minn.; Albert Sliekers of Grundy Center, Iowa; Mrs. H. Van Engen and children, Henry Franken and John Schurman of Doon; James Jasper and family of Orange City; and John Bobbeldyk of Inwood.
