Ireton and vicinity were shocked Sunday morning when it was learned that Hanford Shimer had died Saturday night. A few days ago he was hurt in felling a tree on his father's farm, but it was not known at the time that his injury was serious. Less than two weeks ago be was married to Miss Flossie Thomas and a very bright future seemed to be opening, for these young people.
The death of a young person is always sad, but is especially so under such circumstances; a young wife, father and three sisters remain to mourn his loss, the mother having died a few years ago; the whole community sorrow with them.
(Flossie Thomas Shimer later married Charles Bruce Houlton 1871-1947 She died 1958. From an account on line, Hanford E. Shimer was born apr 1884 Reading Tsp Sioux county IA. He died 23 mar 1901 Ireton IA. His parents were Henry Clinton Shimer 1850-1921 and Elizabeth Ellen Bradfield 1852-1895. Hanford and Flossie were married Mar 13, 1901 Ireton IA then he died Mar 23rd.)
