HAWARDEN, Iowa — Fern Amelia Peterson, 90, of Hawarden died Monday, March 6, 2000, at
Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. in Hawarden with the, Rev. Sutart Schreur officiating. Burial will be in Big Springs Baptist Cemetery, rural Alcester, S.D. Visitation will begin at noon today at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Miss Peterson was born July 17, 1909, in Big Springs Township, Union County, S.D., the daughter of Charles and Selma (Leiff) Peterson. She was baptized in the Baptist faith.
She attended Petry Country School and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1928. She attended business school in Sioux City for one year. She and her twin sister lived with
family members at the family century farm near Big Springs. They moved into Hawarden in 1996 and entered Hillcrest Care Center in January 1999. She was a member of Union Creek Extension Club, Sioux Valley Extension Club and the Goodwill Class of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed the outdoors.
Survivors include her twin sister, Florence.
