Mrs. Jeanette Verdoorn, age 76, of Long Beach, California, formerly of Orange City, passed away Tuesday, May 26, at Doctors Hospital in Lakewood, California.

The former Jeanette Bynes was born March 17, 1916, at Hospers. She graduated from the Hospers Public School. On June 30, 1932, she married John W. Verdoorn at Hospers. They lived at Hospers for several years and then moved to Orange City. He passed away March 3, 1973, at Orange City. She then was employed at Dykema's Store and later at Royal Dutch Bakery, both in Orange City. In 1988, she moved to Long Beach, to reside with her sister. She was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City.

Survivors include her son Frederick Verdoorn, of Brookings, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Dr. Robert Verdoorn and his wife Karen, of Des Moines; Martin Verdoorn of Council Bluffs; and Jill Turner and her husband, Tony, of Sioux City; great-granddaughter, Sara Turner; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Fuchs of Long Beach; and Mrs. Viola Blemaster and her husband, Albert, of Moville; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Bynes of Redlands, California; Mrs. Dorothy Kleinwolterink and her husband, Peter, of Orange City; and Mrs. Norie Henry of Brandon, South Dakota; brother-in-law, Daniel Verdoorn of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and many nephews and nieces.

Memorial services were held Thursday, May 28, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Paramount, California, with the Revs. Harold Korver and Dave
Laman officiating. Memorial graveside services were held Tuesday, June 2, at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City with the Rev. Donald De Glopper and the Rev. Garret Docter officiating. Arrangements were with the VanEtten-Oolman-VanGelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
