Obituary: Hawarden, IA—Eileen Vander Helm, 82, of Hawarden, IA died Sunday, April 15, 2012 surrounded by her family in the care of the wonderful nurses and staff of the Hillcrest Health Care Center and Hospice of Siouxland. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with burial to follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church beginning at noon on Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will be a time of visitation with the family following the prayer service with coffee and cookies.

Eileen Margaret Marienau was born October 13, 1929 in Brunsville, IA to the parents of Ben and Ida (Berg) Marienau. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On January 4, 1952 she married Henry Vander Helm and they made their home in Sioux Center, IA before moving to Hawarden in 1960. Eileen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and cared for many other children in her home, as well as her grandchildren over the years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, taught Bible school, was a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed cooking, music, flower gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Eileen is survived by her children, Linda (Regan) Pearson of Alcester, SD, Leah (Mike) Van Wyhe of Ireton, IA, Mark (Beth) Vander Helm of Hawarden, Lorna (Jeff) Musilek of Hawarden, and LaRae (Fernando) Lopez of Hawarden; brother, Leonard (Eleanor) Marienau of Ireton, IA; sister, Lorraine (Don) Luksan of LeMars, IA; sister-in-law, Neva Marienau of Hawarden; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Eileen is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Henry; parents; brothers, Marvin, Norman and Robert; and sisters Evelyn and Ida Mae.
