Mrs. Helen Nelson, age 76, of Orange City, Iowa, formerly of Lenox, Iowa, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility, after a courageous battle with cancer.

There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, April 18, at 2:00pm, at the Christian Church – Disciples of Christ in Lenox. The Rev. Timothy Maxa will officiate. Interment will follow at the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Helen Audna was born on January 31, 1936, in Lenox, the daughter of R. Willis and Dorothy (Eckler) Stream. She was raised in southwest Iowa, where she attended country schools and the Van Wert School. She graduated from the Lenox High School.

On November 18, 1956, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Dale O. Nelson in Lenox. They made their home in Lenox, where she was a homemaker, and she was a cook at the Lenox Community Schools for 37 years. She made delicious home cooked meals and will be fondly remembered for her cinnamon rolls, snickerdoodles, and chocolate chip cookies, which the students loved. On January 22, 1993, Dale passed away in Lenox.
In 1996, Mrs. Nelson moved to Orange City. She was a member of the Lenox Christian Church, where she had been active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a quiet prayer warrior, who constantly thought of others. She was also a school volunteer.

Helen enjoyed reading, collecting recipies, cooking, shopping, and March Madness Basketball. The time she spent with her family was precious.

She lived her entire life caring for those around her. She was cherished by and devoted to her husband, daughter, granddaughter, nephews and nieces, and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim Bihrer, and granddaughter, Keatyn Bihrer, both of Orange City; two brothers and their wives, Lloyd "Bud" and Shirley Stream, of Monmouth, Illinois; and Howard "Skip" and Jannie Stream, of Harvest, Alabama; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stream, of Le Mars; Betty Yount, of Monticello; and Lela, and her husband, Paul Duke, of Gresham, Oregon; and special friends, Beverly Stream and CharLes Bugenhagen.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steven C. Bihrer; and a brother, Harold Stream.
