Harold J. VerSteeg, age 90, Covenant Village, Golden Valley, Minn., formerly of Hopkins, Minn, died March 20, 2005. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 2 at 12:00 noon at the First Covenant Church, 810 So. 7th St., Minneapolis, Minn. visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A family graveside service was held on March 22 at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Harold was born in Orange City on Oct. 16, 1914. He had served as teacher, principal and director of elementary education in the Hopkins School District.

Mr. VerSteeg was an active member of First Covenant Church, having served on many boards over the years.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. James VerSteeg and his wife Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dr. Bruce VerSteeg and his wife Joan of Fergus Falls, Minn; a daughter, Bonnie and her husband Dr. Michael Halcomb of Milwaukee, Wis; grandchildren: Dr. Linda (Eric) Hofschire, James & Heidi VerSteeg, Jonathan, Dr. Joel (Sonja) and Jeremy (Amy) Halcomb; great-grandchildren: Emma, Eric, Brian, Grace and Abigail Halcomb; a sister, Nelvina Thompson and two brothers, Clarence and Wilbur VerSteeg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera in March, 2004.

Memorials may be directed to the First Covenant Church for Covenant Pines Camp scholarships.
