From the Alton Democrat of May 5, 1900
Mrs. Cornelius Hoekstra died at her home in this city last Saturday at the age of seventy-two years. She had been in poor health for some time. She leaves two sons and three daughters, one son residing at Sheldon and another in Holland. The three daughters married brothers, one of whom Mrs. Y Mulder, lives in Chicago and Mesdames Gerrit and G. Mulder, who live near Carnes. Mrs. Hoekstra returned only last Wednesday from a visit to the last named, and the trip was too great an exertion for her weakened constitution. Service were held at the Christian Reformed church Monday.
