J. J. De Boer, for a number years a resident of Hospers and was known over the county, died of consumption at that place Wednesday Mr. De Boer formerly conducted newspaper at Hospers, but of late had been running a billiard hall. For
some time until recently he has represented the ALTON DEMOCRAT at Hospers in the capacity of correspondent and furnished newsy and interesting
weekly letters. His death will greatly regretted by everyone and especially the DEMOCRAT people,
whom he has in times past rendered valuable service. A brother from Indiana was at his bedside.
(After some research, this was determined to be Jacob Jans De Boer born 10 Feb 1865 at Barradeel Friesland Netherlands to Jan Douwes De Boer and Antje Dirkes Vander Mei married 4 May 1844 Barradeel Fr. Neth. . He is believed to have been single at the time of his death as only a brother is stated as being at his bedside. He came from a large family of sibling all born in the Netherlands. Several settled in Midwest USA, including Dirk/Dick born 1846, Klaas born 1859-1920, Gerrit born 1863, Doc/Douwe born 1845, Mrs R. Vander Zee of Bemis SD in 1920 and Mrs. D. Van Groningen of Humbolt SD in 1920. The list of the children from Friesland birth records were Douwe 1845, Dirk 1846, Klaaske 1849, Theunis 1852, Geeske 1854, Wyske 1856, Klaas 1859, Klaaske 1861, Gerrit 1863, Jacob 1865.)
