Funeral Services to be Held for Joe Verdoorn

Funeral services for Joe Verdoorn, 78, a longtime Sioux County resident who died Monday [March 30] at the Sioux Center hospital, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Reformed church. Rev. John Ryker will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View cemetery under the direction of the Porter funeral home.

Mr. Verdoorn was born June 27, 1885 in The Netherlands. He came to the United States in 1888 and resided on a Sioux county farm before coming to Rock Valley. He married Jennie Rozenboom in 1918. She died in 1928 and he married Gertrude Dykgraf in 1931. She died in 1957.

Survivors include two sons, Jake of Alexandria, Va., and William of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Martin of Rochester, Minn. and Dick of Rock Valley; five sisters, Mrs. Annie Westerhuyzen of Glenwood, Minn., Mrs. Mary De Young of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Teunie Van Woudenberg, Mrs. Bertha Gaalswyk, and Mrs. Grace Blick, all of Rock Valley, and four grandchildren.
