Lloyd Van Gorp
January 8, 1923 - January 21, 2005 Mr. Lloyd Van Gorp, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2005 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, January 24, at 1:30 pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Lloyd was born on January 8, 1923, at Orange City, the son of Edward and Gertrude (Muilenburg) Van Gorp. He was raised at Orange City. During World War II, he served in the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart.
On April 8, 1948, he married Hendrine Wielenga at Orange City. They made their home at Orange City. At first, he was a truck driver for Cambier Gravel. For most of their married life, they farmed near Orange City. In 1988, they semi-retired to an acreage north of Orange City.
Mr. Van Gorp was a lifetime member of the First Reformed Church, where he enjoyed doing volunteer work on the church's new office addition. He also belonged to the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post, and he liked to go to the Adult Activity Center.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years; three sons and their wives, Kenneth and Carol Van Gorp, of Orange City; Arlin and Janene Van Gorp, of Sioux Center; and Raymond and Lori Van Gorp, of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Kevin Van Gorp, and his wife, Heather, of Kesley; Craig Van Gorp, and his wife, Rachel; and Kelli Feenstra, all of Orange City; Mindy, and her husband, Jason Abendroth, of Des Moines; Luke Van Gorp and Seth Van Gorp, both of Sioux Center; Leah Van Gorp, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Kyle Van Gorp and Corey Van Gorp, both of Orange City; four great-grandchildren, Brenden, Rian, and Brady Van Gorp, and Tayveon Feenstra; three brothers and their wives, Russell and Mildred Van Gorp, of Orange City; Donald and Alvina Van Gorp, of Montevideo, Minnesota; and Perry and Joan Van Gorp, of Sioux Center; a sister and her husband, Esther and Peter Bos, of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Frances Van Gorp, of Orange City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Jean, and a brother, Howard.
