Lena De Roon, 83, of Rock Valley, died suddenly Tuesday, September 15, 1992, at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. De Roon,. the former Lena De Kam, was born May 19, 1909, in The Netherlands, the daughter of John and Nellie (De Witte) De Kam. She came to the United States with her family in 1921. On Jan. 1, 1932, she married Peter De Roon in Lebanon. The couple farmed near Lebanon and later moved to a farm west of Rock Valley. Mr, De Roon died Feb. 24, 1948, and she remained on the farm until 1964, when she moved to Rock Valley. She worked at the Valley Manor Nursing Home for 18 years, retiring in 1983. She had made her home at Valley Manor the last three years.

Mrs. De Roon was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Clarence and Esther of Rock Valley and John and Carol of Hawarden; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Jennie) Van Wyhe of Hills, Minn., and Mrs. Rodney (Nellie) Tilstra of Sioux Center; two brothers, Clarence De Kam of Rock Valley and Sam De Kam of Rock Rapids; six sisters, Mrs. Gysbert (Johanna) Bakker, Mrs. John (Anna) Van Beek, Mrs. Leonard (Catherine) Groeneweg, Mrs. Clarence (Frances) Boer, and Mrs. Edward (Martena) Kragt, all of Rock Valley and Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Oostra of Hudsonville, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; and 29 greatgrandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Randy and Terry Tilstra; three brothers, John, Peter and Marvin; a sister, Nellie Bakker, and one brother and one sister in infancy
